The next phase of the focused update to the Land Use and Circulation Elements in the City’s General Plan kicks of this month with our second Public Workshop on September 27th. We will also be continuing our efforts in three more neighborhoods on September 29th.

We’ve been compiling a great deal of information to tell us where we are now in terms of our development as a City and how our residents and businesses would like to see us evolve,” said Kim Murry, Deputy Director, Long-Range Planning. “This information will inform the City and the Resident Task Force of what portions of the Land Use and Circulation Element should remain and what changes should be made to improve or enhance the community in the future.”

The City recently conducted a City-wide survey about key issues, which was completed by almost 2,300 residents and businesses – more than four times the number that participated in a similar effort in 1988. Key findings included continued support for the preservation of open space and the natural environment as well as concern regarding traffic congestion and homeless issues.

“We will be sharing the results of these efforts and asking participants at the workshop to give us feedback on six key areas of the Update; creative land use options, downtown pedestrian walkways and overall environment, vehicle transportation, bike-pedestrian pathways, identification of new growth areas and community amenities and facilities” said Murry. “This input will help us review existing direction and develop alternatives for our future development which the public will be able to review in the coming months.”

Complete results of the survey as well as information from the Background Report are available on the project website, www.slo2035.com.
